ViiV Healthcare expands Positive Action Southern Initiative to fight HIV/AIDS and support community action
Research Triangle Park, NC – February 4, 2013 – ViiV Healthcare today announced that it will expand the Positive Action Southern Initiative to two additional states and issued a new request for letters of interest (LOIs). First established in 2010, the Positive Action Southern Initiative is a collaborative, community-focused program that focuses on linking people living with HIV into care and/or enhancing their treatment adherence and delaying disease progression. With today’s announcement, the Positive Action Southern Initiative will have committed over $2.5M towards funding grass-roots projects designed to address local gaps in care and services for people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS in this hard-hit region.

HIV experts debate the future of care
Almost 100 specialist clinicians, primary care providers, commissioners, policy-makers, public health experts and representatives of community groups attended an interactive HIV Services Summit organised by ViiV Healthcare at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
In an era of unprecedented pressure on healthcare systems and austerity measures, the costs of delivering HIV care are under scrutiny, both in the UK with the reorganisation of the NHS, and globally. Delegates debated and prioritised their ideas on how to move HIV management towards a chronic disease model while protecting the quality and accessibility of care. The summit was chaired by Professor Brian Gazzard, Clinical Research Director, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London and speakers included Professor Jane Anderson, Chair, British HIV Association (BHIVA), Paul Ward, Deputy Chief Executive, Terrence Higgins Trust and Dr Simon Barton, Chair of the UK’s National HIV Clinical Reference Group.

ViiV Healthcare commits nearly £4M in Positive Action for Children Fund grants for programmes focused on alleviating burden of HIV on women and children
London, UK, 8 November 2012—ViiV Healthcare announced today that it has awarded nearly £4 million to 99 projects in 26 countries through its Positive Action for Children Fund (PACF), aimed at improving the health and well-being of women, children and families affected by HIV. Collectively, PACF has awarded approximately £13.6M from 2010-2012 in support of 122 grantees.
Today’s announcement extends funding for 2011 small grant awardees and technical assistance providers, to help support projects that continue to have an impact among the local communities they serve. The Positive Action for Children Fund renewed support for 84 community projects that are making a tangible difference in 21 countries where mothers and children are most affected by HIV.

ViiV Healthcare Expands Support for HIV Prevention and Education in Hard-Hit U.S. Region
Research Triangle Park, NC – July 31, 2012 – ViiV Healthcare today announced seven new grant awardees of the Positive Action Southern Initiative, focused on supporting African American, Latino, women, homeless, and incarcerated populations in the Southeast United States. The selected organizations based in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi, aim to help high-risk HIV/AIDS individuals and provide linkages to HIV/AIDS care and treatment adherence. Since its launch in 2010, ViiV Healthcare’s Positive Action Southern Initiative has helped to enable effective interventions and quality services to fight HIV in South-eastern states.

London, UK, 13, October, 2011 – ViiV Healthcare announced today that it has awarded approximately £3.9 million to 16 organisations in eight countries, through its Positive Action for Children Fund (PACF). All grantees have been recognised for their commitment to improving the standard of access to care for women, children and families living with or affected by HIV. Such work is closely aligned with the World Health Organization’s vision for addressing the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and works toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals set to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health.

ViiV Healthcare Awards Small Grants from Positive Action for Children Fund to 82 Charitable Organisations Globally
ViiV Healthcare announced on 20 June that it has awarded £1 million to 82 projects in 21 countries across the globe aimed at improving the health and welfare of women, children and families affected by HIV. With this large number of smaller community grants, the Positive Action Children’s Fund aims to stimulate grassroots community action in support of global PMTCT (Preventing Mother to Child Transmission) community efforts to eliminate vertical transmission of HIV. Such work is closely aligned with the World Health Organization’s vision for addressing mother-to-child transmission of HIV and works toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals set to reduce child mortality, improve maternal health and combat spread of HIV.

Positive Action for Children Fund announces its first grants
On 30 June 2010 the Board of the Positive Action for Children Fund announced their first grants to improve the health and welfare of women, children and families affected by HIV. Twelve projects were announced, totalling £3.6m in grants. Recipients include the Women Friendly Initiative in Nigeria, Save the Children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Rajasthan Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in India.

Positive Action US: Southern Initiative awards seven grants
On 9 September 2010, ViiV Healthcare announced the Positive Action US: Southern Initiative grant awards. Seven community organisations received grants for two years, supporting work to reduce the disparities in linkages to HIV care and treatment and improve adherence among African-Americans and Latinos in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

On April 4, 2011 – ViiV Healthcare announced that it will expand the Positive Action U.S. Southern Initiative to four additional states and issued a new request for letters of interest (LOIs). Established in 2010, the initiative focuses on linking people living with HIV into care and/or enhancing their treatment adherence and delaying disease progression. Initially piloted in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, the expanded program will continue the mission of reducing disparities in HIV/AIDS care and treatment among African-American and Latinos in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
