India
From 2005 until 2010 Positive Action supported the creation and expansion of Reach India. Reach India delivers an extensive programme of education and awareness for women in rural areas whose knowledge of HIV is very low.
Watch the video:
The project has developed "learning conversations" - structured training tools - on HIV and AIDS, on malaria and on important social and economic issues that can be used by India's enormous network of existing women's Self Help Groups. To date over 750,000 women and girls have been trained in Reach India’s various curriculums.
Self-help group leaders are offered training in the use of these tools at 12 new self-funding training centres: the project has created these as a sustainable approach that can address the social and health needs of poor women with low literacy through their existing community-based organisations.
