The workplace has long been recognised as an important environment for HIV and AIDS education. This education can help to address issues of stigma and discrimination as well as HIV prevention.
Where an employer also has their own HIV policy embracing non-discrimination, fair and equitable accommodation of the needs of people affected by HIV, and access to benefits that can include counselling and HIV treatment, training for employees becomes essential to the successful implementation of the policy.
Positive Action at Work has used the experiences of companies implementing comprehensive HIV and AIDS policies to develop materials that will assist in that implementation since 2002. Recognising that stigma has been a significant obstacle for companies offering care and treatment, Positive Action at Work has made it a cornerstone of its programme.
On these pages you will find all the tools and materials that have been developed with employees and peer educators in different parts of the world and are now available to you, rights free. Action plans, leaflets, posters, work cards and peer education materials can be downloaded.
Around the world Positive Action at Work has been supported in the distribution of materials by partners like the GSK France Foundation, the Kenya HIV/AIDS Business Council and GSK Kenya, GSK India, GSK Mexico, Colectivo Sol and the Mexican business council, CONAES. Over 40,000 copies of the Peer Educator Diaries and Work Cards have been distributed to date.
