POSITIVE ACTION SOUTHERN INITIATIVE
Our commitment to expanding linkage to care and engagement support services for people living with HIV in the Southern US.
Since ViiV Healthcare’s beginning, we’ve been committed to addressing the HIV epidemic in the South. Launched in 2010 as one of ViiV Healthcare’s first community programs, Positive Action Southern Initiative (PASI) responded to the HIV epidemic by providing much-needed resources in the South, which carries the greatest burden of the HIV epidemic in the United States.1 The Positive Action Southern Initiative has ignited organizations’ efforts to expand and enhance community programs that connect people to prevention, treatment and care, with a particular focus on those most often left behind.
In 2021, PASI supported 33 organizations across the South, providing community-based solutions and a platform to share best practices for linking, re-linking and engaging people living with HIV in care. We support organizations that are reaching those most often left behind in the South so that they can expand their work to better link and engage people in HIV prevention and care.
Our Response: Thinking Differently to End the Epidemic in the South
PASI is a unique funding stream focused on supporting community programs that are engaging those most disproportionally impacted by HIV — especially people of color (including women of color)1, young people, gay and bisexual men of color, transgender people, people currently or formerly incarcerated, sex workers and people who use drugs.

Through the accelerate Initiative, ViiV Healthcare supports place-based, community-driven activities that strengthen the health and well-being of Black men who have sex with men.
Through our Positive Action for Latinx Men program, we are committed to developing culturally appropriate and inclusive programming to address rising rates of HIV diagnoses in Latinx gay, bisexual, queer and trans men living with and affected by HIV.
Through our Positive Action for Youth program, we are committed to supporting innovative solutions and nurturing mentorship programs to help young leaders close gaps in care for HIV, especially among young people.
