Although general practitioners (GPs) are well placed to diagnose HIV, in reality HIV is not in the front of mind for the majority of GPs and diagnosis is frequently missed. In addition, there is a lack of awareness amongst GPs regarding HIV prevalence rates, with 43% in London being unaware that they practise in a very high HIV prevalence area.2
