Sabena Solomon pursues diverse career opportunities at ViiV Healthcare

As our company grows and new opportunities arise, our people often pursue a diversity of roles across a range of functions, with a common purpose of supporting HIV patients. Sabena Solomon is one such example. Her talent and passion has led her to roles all across the business, which Sabena says has broadened her skills and challenged her in new directions.

At ViiV Healthcare our people are 100% committed to improving the lives of people affected by HIV. As our company grows and new opportunities arise, our people often pursue a diversity of roles across a range of functions, all with a common purpose of supporting HIV patients.

Sabena Solomon is one such example. Sabena has been part of ViiV Healthcare since the company was formed in 2009.She hasn’t stayed in the same role, nor the same division or even continent. Her talent and passion has led her to roles all across the business, which Sabena says has broadened her skills and challenged her in new directions.

Sabena joined ViiV Healthcare at the very beginning, when she moved from her HIV marketing manager role at GlaxoSmithKline to ‘NewCo,’ now known as ViiV Healthcare. Sabena started out as the HIV National Business Manager for the United Kingdom. She recalls a strong sense of purpose among the new organisation and a shared vision of leaving no patient behind.

“People at ViiV Healthcare seize opportunities and are motivated to make a change for HIV patients – I see this passion and motivation in every one of my colleagues. When ViiV Healthcare started, we wanted to prove that we could make a difference, and that drive has stayed with us. Our culture is unique and our aspiration is impressive.”

Her next role in ViiV Healthcare was as European Lead of Business Managers, where she was responsible for developing our sales strategy in Europe. Sabena worked closely with her colleagues in business management and marketing to understand the training needs, the business planning and opportunities to support our company. She had the opportunity to work across Europe and understand first-hand the different healthcare systems, varying cultures and barriers to treatment.

Shortly after, Sabena progressed to Head of Alliance and Capabilities Director, where she was accountable for implementing the company strategy in 26 markets across Europe. Sabena supported the capability development of our colleagues in Europe, during and after launches of our new medicines.

One of Sabena’s fondest memories in this role is collaborating with Medical Director, Els Hollanders. By working closely with Els, together they were able to better understand and meet the needs of patients and customers, while supporting a new product launch across Europe. Sabena is proud to have partnered with Els to provide a truly patient focused approach to support those affected by HIV in Europe.

Working in a small organisation such as ViiV Healthcare inevitably provides a broad scope of experience in any role, with the need to adapt to the situation at hand. This means everyone has the opportunity to stretch their skills and develop expertise beyond the core scope of a role, providing exciting opportunities to progress and grow.

“The culture in ViiV Healthcare supports personal growth and development. I have been fortunate enough to work with great teams, peers and managers who have supported my career aspirations to take on challenging and rewarding roles in ViiV Healthcare”

Today Sabena works as the Midwest Regional Sales Director in the United States where she is seen here with her team in Chicago on a team-building exercise. In her current role, Sabena is focused on supporting and developing her team to be the best that they can be, and ensuring the appropriate people living with HIV have access to our medicines.

Just a few months into her new role, she is excited about the challenges ahead:

“I am so proud to work for this company – for many reasons: the vision of leaving no patient behind, the motivation and ‘can do’ spirit of my colleagues, and the focus we have to be successful and make a difference to improve the lives of people living with and affected by HIV.”

At ViiV Healthcare, we are committed to nurturing our people and supporting them in their roles, which we believe builds a spirit of resilience that underpins all that we do. For more information on pursuing a career at ViiV Healthcare check out our postings on LinkedIn.
