Impact so far
This project is unique as it involves PLHIV on both the service provider and client side. The traditional state-supported programmes in Czech Republic focus on HIV prevention and medical services and treatment. However, our new programmes go beyond treatment and provide much needed psychological support, and improve treatment literacy, which leads to better retention in care and helps our clients lead normal lives.
It is important for our community as it helps people step out of the social taboo shadow and discuss HIV openly, in a non-threatening and non-judgemental environment. Our treatment guidebook is the first of its kind for patients in the country and our peer programmes target not only PLHIV, but also their families, who often need as much support as the person diagnosed with HIV.
The projects have had positive feedback from clients and below are some quotes from service users.
