The DUDES' Club

An innovative health service model for marginalised inner-city men living with or at risk of HIV infection in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside - one of Canada's most impoverished neighbourhoods.

Next steps & lessons

We have built a wonderful network of partners at the University of British Columbia (UBC) who will be working with us to host a health fair. We appreciate the researchers at UBC because of their respectful community-based approach.

We are currently seeking grants to conduct research about the DUDES' Club and its impact. Future directions include analysing HIV prevention and treatment outcomes and collecting narratives with mixed-media methods.

We have learned to listen to what the community tells us. Their voice is very important. The DUDES' Club gives these men a sense of ownership. It has made them realise they do have a voice – and that when they talk, others will listen.
